Several cases of liver and endometrial cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining while lung cancers displayed moderate positivity. Several renal and pancreatic cancers exhibited weak to moderate cytoplasmic and membranous staining. Remaining cancer tissues were weakly stained or negative.
Moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity was observed in a few gliomas. A few cases of thyroid, urothelial, testicular, colorectal, prostate and endometrial cancers showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Remaining cancer tissues were generally negative.
Breast, ovarian, urothelial, renal, gastric, pancreatic, liver cancer, malignant lymphomas showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic granular positivity. Malignant gliomas, melanomas, skin, colorectal and prostate cancer were weakly stained or negative.

Description
Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II alpha (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The product of this gene belongs to the serine/threonine protein kinases family, and to the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases subfamily. Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspects of plasticity at glutamatergic synapses. This calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The alpha chain encoded by this gene is required for hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and spatial learning. In addition to its calcium-calmodulin (CaM)-dependent activity, this protein can undergo autophosphorylation, resulting in CaM-independent activity. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2008]
