Most malignant tissues showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity with additional membranous staining in a few cases. Testicular cancers as well as most urothelial cancer and malignant gliomas were negative.
Cancers generally displayed moderate cytoplasmic positivity with additional membranous staining in several cases. Renal cancers showed additional nuclear positivity. A few cases of colorectal, lung and renal cancers were strongly stained. Several urothelial cancers, squamous and basal cell carcinomas were weakly stained or negative.

Histidine ammonia-lyase is a cytosolic enzyme catalyzing the first reaction in histidine catabolism, the nonoxidative deamination of L-histidine to trans-urocanic acid. Histidine ammonia-lyase defects cause histidinemia which is characterized by increased histidine and histamine and decreased urocanic acid in body fluids.
