A single case each of seminoma of testis, renal and pancreatic cancer showed strong cytoplasmic staining. A few cases of prostate, colorectal and ovarian cancers displayed moderate positivity. Remaining cancers were weakly stained or negative.
Thyroid cancers and several cases of endometrial and ovarian cancer showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and nuclear staining. Most cases of melanomas, lung, prostate, gastric, pancreatic and liver cancers displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic and/or nuclear positivity. Remaining cancers were mainly negative.

Synonyms
CSE-C, LSE, MGC87009, YSG2
Description
Sialic acid acetylesterase (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes an enzyme which removes 9-O-acetylation modifications from sialic acids. Mutations in this gene are associated with susceptibility to autoimmune disease 6. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms, found either in the cytosol or in the lysosome, have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]
