Several cases of stomach, pancreatic, liver, urothelial, lung, thyroid, ovarian and cervical cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic staining with additional nuclear staining in several cases. Remaining cancer tissues were weakly stained or negative.
Cancer tissues were mainly negative. Cases of melanomas, ovarian, endometrial, liver and cervical cancers showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
ETNK1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
EKI, EKI1
Description
Ethanolamine kinase 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes an ethanolamine kinase, which functions in the first committed step of the phosphatidylethanolamine synthesis pathway. This cytosolic enzyme is specific for ethanolamine and exhibits negligible kinase activity on choline. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
