Renal cancers showed moderate to strong membranous and cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Few cases of breast cancers showed moderate staining. A subset of tumor cells in few cases of cervix, endometrial, lung and skin cancers displayed moderate cytoplasmic positivity. A single case of duct carcinoma of breast exhibited strong nucleolar staining. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
A single case of melanoma and fraction of cells in a rare case of urothelial cancer displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
Cancer tissues were in general negative. Cases of hepatocellular carcinomas displayed moderate positivity.

Description
Aggrecan (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene is a member of the aggrecan/versican proteoglycan family. The encoded protein is an integral part of the extracellular matrix in cartilagenous tissue and it withstands compression in cartilage. Mutations in this gene may be involved in skeletal dysplasia and spinal degeneration. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode different protein isoforms have been observed in this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
