Colo-rectal tumors showed moderate to strong luminal membrane staining. Most other malignancies showed weak or moderate cytoplasmic and membranous immunoreactivity. Lymphomas and renal cancers were generally negative.
Liver cancers exhibited a number of cases with moderate to strong membranous and cytoplasmic staining while occasional malignant melanomas and gliomas displayed weak to moderate intensities. Remaining malignant cells were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SLC13A3 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
NADC3, SDCT2
Description
Solute carrier family 13 (sodium-dependent dicarboxylate transporter), member 3 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
Mammalian sodium-dicarboxylate cotransporters transport succinate and other Krebs cycle intermediates. They fall into 2 categories based on their substrate affinity: low affinity and high affinity. Both the low- and high-affinity transporters play an important role in the handling of citrate by the kidneys. The protein encoded by this gene represents the high-affinity form. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene, although the full-length nature of some of them have not been characterized yet.
