Strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was observed in endometrial cancers and in a few cases of colorectal, stomach, ovarian, cervical and liver cancers. Most other tumors were negative.
Most of the adenocarcinomas, renal and liver cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and membranous immunoreactivity. Remaining malignancies were generally negative.
Several or most cases of the majority of carcinomas displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity. Malignant gliomas, lymphomas, melanomas along with thyroid, skin, breast and prostate cancers were mainly negative.

Entrez gene summary
This gene is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded poly-Ig receptor binds polymeric immunoglobulin molecules at the basolateral surface of epithelial cells; the complex is then transported across the cell to be secreted at the apical surface. A significant association was found between immunoglobulin A nephropathy and several SNPs in this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
