Prostate cancers showed moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Several melanomas, carcinoids, endometrial cancers along with few urothelial, colorectal, lung and testicular cancers were weak to moderately stained. Few breast cancers exhibited moderate to strong positivity. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
Colorectal cancers and few cases of pancreas, stomach and ovarian cancers showed weak membranous and cytoplasmic staining. Few cases of breast and endometrial cancers displayed moderate cytoplasmic positivity while several cases of prostate and urothelial cancers showed weak staining. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SOAT1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
ACAT, SOAT, STAT
Description
Sterol O-acyltransferase 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the acyltransferase family. It is located in the endoplasmic reticulum, and catalyzes the formation of fatty acid-cholesterol esters. This gene has been implicated in the formation of beta-amyloid and atherosclerotic plaques by controlling the equilibrium between free cholesterol and cytoplasmic cholesteryl esters. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2011]
