Most cancer tissues displayed weak to moderate membranous and cytoplasmic staining. lymphomas displayed strong cytoplasmic staining. Colorectal, breast and pancreatic malignancies showed moderate membranous staining while glioma displayed moderate cytoplasmic staining. Prostate, cervix, skin and stomach malignancies were weak to negative.
Most cancer tissues displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity. Most renal cancers were weakly to moderately stained. Basal cell carcinomas of the skin were generally stronger stained than squamous cell carcinomas.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SLC1A1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
EAAC1, EAAT3
Description
Solute carrier family 1 (neuronal/epithelial high affinity glutamate transporter, system Xag), member 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the high-affinity glutamate transporters that play an essential role in transporting glutamate across plasma membranes. In brain, these transporters are crucial in terminating the postsynaptic action of the neurotransmitter glutamate, and in maintaining extracellular glutamate concentrations below neurotoxic levels. This transporter also transports aspartate, and mutations in this gene are thought to cause dicarboxylicamino aciduria, also known as glutamate-aspartate transport defect.
