Distinct cytoplasmic and membranous staining was observed in testicular cancers as well as cases of endometrial cancers. Fractions of cells in cases of ovarian, cervical and gastric cancers exhibited moderate to strong cytoplasmic and membranous staining. Remaining cancers were negative.
Several cases of hepatocellular carcinomas and endometrial cancers along with a case of gastric cancer displayed strong cytoplasmic positivity. A few testicular cancers showed moderate cytoplasmic and membranous staining. Remaining cancers were negative.
Cases of seminomas, endometrial and ovarian cancers displayed moderate to strong luminal membranous and cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Remaining cancers were negative.
Ovarian serous cancers, testis and endometrial cancers displayed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and membranous staining. Remaining cancers were negative.

Entrez gene summary
The protein encoded by this gene is an alkaline phosphatase, a metalloenzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphoric acid monoesters. It belongs to a multigene family composed of four alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes. The enzyme functions as a homodimer and has a catalytic site containing one magnesium and two zinc ions, which are required for its enzymatic function. The protein is primarily expressed in placental and endometrial tissue; however, strong ectopic expression has been detected in ovarian adenocarcinoma, serous cystadenocarcinoma, and other ovarian cancer cells.
