Few cancer cases of breast, skin, testis and pancreas showed moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Hepatocellular carcinomas showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic and membranous positivity. Remaining cancer tissues were negative or weakly stained.
Most cancer tissues displayed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Colorectal, endometrial, pancreatic and renal cancers exhibited additional membranous staining. Strong staining was observed in renal cancers and few cases of gastric, pancreatic and liver cancers. Several gliomas, melanomas and skin cancers were negative.
Several liver and a few cases of skin and testis cancers showed moderate cytoplasmic staining. All other cancer cells were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
UGP2 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
UGP1, UGPP1
Description
UDP-glucose pyrophosphorylase 2 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
The enzyme encoded by this gene is an important intermediary in mammalian carbohydrate interconversions. It transfers a glucose moiety from glucose-1-phosphate to MgUTP and forms UDP-glucose and MgPPi. In liver and muscle tissue, UDP-glucose is a direct precursor of glycogen; in lactating mammary gland it is converted to UDP-galactose which is then converted to lactose. The eukaryotic enzyme has no significant sequence similarity to the prokaryotic enzyme. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
