Skin cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity. Moderate immunoreactivity was displayed also in a few other cancer cases as well, including head and neck and renal cancer, gliomas and melanomas.
Most cancer tissues exhibited weak to moderate cytoplasmic immunoreactivity, with additional membranous staining in few colorectal and pancreatic cancers. Few cases of colorectal cancers and squamous cell carcinomas were strongly stained. Gliomas, lymphomas, hepatocellular carcinomas and renal cancers were mostly negative.

Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the arm-repeat (armadillo) and plakophilin gene families. Plakophilin proteins contain numerous armadillo repeats, localize to cell desmosomes and nuclei, and participate in linking cadherins to intermediate filaments in the cytoskeleton. This protein may act in cellular desmosome-dependent adhesion and signaling pathways. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014]
