Cholangiocarcinomas and endometrial cancers displayed strong cytoplasmic and cellmembranous staining in a majority of cases. Skin cancers, gliomas, lymphomas and melanomas were negative.
Several cancer types showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic or membranous positivity. Gliomas, lymphomas, melanomas, skin and renal cancers were negative.
Most cancer tissues showed weak to moderate membranous and cytoplasmic positivity. Few cases of pancreas, prostate, colorectal and testis cancers displayed strong membranous and/or cytoplasmic immunoreactivity. Lymphomas, gliomas, melanomas, skin cancers and most renal cell carcinomas were negative.
Majority of cancer tissues showed weak to moderate membranous and/or cytoplasmic positivity. Lymphomas, gliomas, melanomas, carcionids, renal cell carcinomas and skin cancers were in general negative.

Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes an integral membrane protein that is required for cytokine-induced regulation of the tight junction paracellular permeability barrier. Mutations in this gene are thought to be a cause of band-like calcification with simplified gyration and polymicrogyria (BLC-PMG), an autosomal recessive neurologic disorder that is also known as pseudo-TORCH syndrome. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A related pseudogene is present 1.5 Mb downstream on the q arm of chromosome 5. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2011]
