Most cancer tissues showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity with additional nuclear staining in several cases. Several gliomas, papillary adenocarcinomas of thyroid, squamous cell carcinomas of head and neck region exhibited strong immunoreactivity.
Most cancer tissues showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic staining with additional nuclear positivity in a few cases. A few cases of prostate adenocarcinomas exhibited strong immunoreactivity. Carcinoids along with several urothelial, renal and endometrial cancers were negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
STK39 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
DCHT, SPAK
Description
Serine threonine kinase 39 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a serine/threonine kinase that is thought to function in the cellular stress response pathway. The kinase is activated in response to hypotonic stress, leading to phosphorylation of several cation-chloride-coupled cotransporters. The catalytically active kinase specifically activates the p38 MAP kinase pathway, and its interaction with p38 decreases upon cellular stress, suggesting that this kinase may serve as an intermediate in the response to cellular stress.
