A few cases of hepatocellular carcinomas, colorectal, breast, testicular and urothelial cancers along with occasional cases of renal cancers and melanomas showed weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Remaining cancer cells were negative.
Several colorectal cancers along with a few pancreatic, prostatic and liver, stomach and endometrial cancers exhibited weak to moderate cytoplasmic positivity. Other cancer tissues were negative.
A subset of tumor cells in a single case of cholangiocarcinoma and seminoma showed moderate cytoplasmic staining while renal cancer displayed moderate membranous positivity. Extracellular material was distinctly stained in few cases of cervix and colorectal cancers. Remaining cancer tissues were negative.
Cases of hepatocellular carcinomas displayed moderate cytoplasmic positivity while fractions of cells in renal cancers showed nuclear positivity. Tumor cells in general were negative.

Entrez gene summary
This gene is a member of the Regulator of Complement Activation (RCA) gene cluster and encodes a protein with twenty short consensus repeat (SCR) domains. This protein is secreted into the bloodstream and has an essential role in the regulation of complement activation, restricting this innate defense mechanism to microbial infections. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) and chronic hypocomplementemic nephropathy. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
