Moderate to strong cytoplasmic immunoreactivity was observed in most cancer tissues. Lymphomas, hepatocellular carcinomas, thyroid and prostate cancers along with several gliomas, carcinoids, breast, stomach and lung cancers were negative.
Fraction of cells in few squamous cell carcinomas, colorectal, urothelial and testicular cancers showed moderate to strong membranous staining. Remaining cancer tissues were weakly stained or mostly negative.
Most cancers showed moderate to strong cytoplasmic positivity. Thyroid and gastric cancers and melanomas were mainly weak or negative.
GENE INFORMATION
Gene name
SLC2A1 (HGNC Symbol)
Synonyms
CSE, DYT18, DYT9, GLUT, GLUT1, HTLVR
Description
Solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter), member 1 (HGNC Symbol)
Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a major glucose transporter in the mammalian blood-brain barrier. The encoded protein is found primarily in the cell membrane and on the cell surface, where it can also function as a receptor for human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV) I and II. Mutations in this gene have been found in a family with paroxysmal exertion-induced dyskinesia. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2013]
