Moderate to strong staining was observed in hepatocellular carcinomas, endometrial, ovarian and renal cancers as well as cases of pancreatic and cervical cancers. Several colorectal, breast, prostate and urothelial cancers showed moderate positivity. Remaining cancer tissues were generally negative.
Many cases of hepatocellular carcinomas were strongly stained while several carcinoids, ovarian, endometrial, thyroid, renal and pancreatic cancers showed moderate cytoplasmic and occasional nuclear staining. Remaining cancer cells were weakly stained or negative.

Entrez gene summary
This gene encodes a member of the carbohydrate kinase PfkB family. The encoded protein phosphorylates ribose to form ribose-5-phosphate in the presence of ATP and magnesium as a first step in ribose metabolism. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2013]
