Cytoplasmic bodies

Cytoplasmic body is a collective term for distinct foci inside the cytoplasm including processing bodies (P-bodies) or stress granules. P-bodies have important tasks in mRNA turnover, including mRNA decay and silencing.

Immunofluorescent staining

The staining of cytoplasmic bodies appears as distinct round spots in the cytoplasm and can easily be mistaken for vesicles. However, it is usually possible to distinguish them by their size and number, as cytoplasmic bodies are slightly larger than vesicles and occur in lower numbers.
